Overview

Fort Hills Oil Sands is an open-pit truck and shovel mine in Northern Alberta. It is one of the largest operations of its kind, with a production capacity of 14,500 tonnes of oil sand per hour, and 194,000 barrels per day.

Magna IV Engineering’s contribution to the power systems of this mega-project took place over a period of 4-years and encompassed over 110,000 person-hours of labour, with zero lost time injuries.

The scale of this project provided an opportunity for Magna to demonstrate our ability to provide high quality electrical services, even as the workforce supplied peaked at over 60 NETA technologists.

Scope

Off-site pre-commissioning of 45 E-Houses in Edmonton and Calgary fabrication facilities; On-site commissioning of 58 E-Houses.

Cost reduction from the successful integration of processes for on- and off-site commissioning activities helped realize up to 40% savings for the client.
